Best Buy Homes
Effective date: September 10, 2026
This is a short notice of how Best Buy Homes (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares personal information when we sell, deliver, and service modular and manufactured homes in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia.
1. Laws that apply
We handle personal information in the course of commercial activity. The following private-sector privacy laws apply, depending on where the activity and the individual are located:
- Manitoba and Saskatchewan — Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
- Alberta — Personal Information Protection Act (Alberta PIPA).
- British Columbia — Personal Information Protection Act (BC PIPA).
If more than one law could apply, we follow the one that governs that activity. We collect only what a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.
2. What we collect
We collect only the information we need to do business with you. That may include:
- Identity and contact details: name, address, phone, email, and date of birth where required.
- Property and order details: site address, home model, options, delivery and installation information.
- Financial information: payment details, financing or credit information you provide or authorize.
- Identity documents required by law, including anti-money-laundering (FINTRAC) records.
- Communications: emails, messages, notes of calls, and records of site visits.
- Website information: pages visited, device type, and similar technical data if you use our website.
We do not collect more information than we need. We do not sell personal information.
3. Why we use it
We use personal information to:
- Respond to inquiries and prepare quotes.
- Enter into and perform a purchase, delivery, installation, or service contract.
- Arrange financing, insurance, utilities, foundations, and other services you request.
- Meet legal duties, including tax, licensing, and FINTRAC identity-verification rules.
- Communicate about your order, warranty, and service.
- Improve our products and operations.
- Send marketing only if you have consented, or as otherwise permitted by law. You may withdraw marketing consent at any time.
4. Consent
We collect, use, and disclose personal information with your consent, or where a law allows or requires it. Consent may be express (for example, signing an order or checking a box) or implied where the purpose is obvious and the information is not sensitive.
You may refuse or withdraw consent, subject to legal or contractual limits. If you withdraw consent for something we need to complete a contract, we may not be able to provide that product or service.
5. Who we share it with
We share personal information only as needed, including with:
- Home manufacturers, transporters, installers, and other contractors working on your order.
- Lenders, insurers, lawyers, and surveyors you authorize.
- Payment processors and our professional advisors.
- Regulators and other authorities when the law requires it (including FINTRAC).
- Companies that host or support our systems, under contracts that require them to protect the information.
Some service providers may be outside the province where you live, or outside Canada. If so, the information may be subject to the laws of that other place.
6. How we protect it
We use reasonable administrative, physical, and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. Access is limited to people who need it to do their jobs. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take steps to reduce risk.
If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and, where required, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta. We will also notify other regulators when the law or good practice requires it.
7. How long we keep it
We keep personal information in electronic form indefinitely. That includes customer files, contracts, communications, and related records. We do this for business history, warranty and service support, legal and tax requirements, and to answer later questions about an order or home.
FINTRAC identity-verification records are kept for at least five years, and in practice they remain in our electronic files with the rest of the customer record. Paper copies, if any, may be securely destroyed after they have been scanned, while the electronic copy is retained.
If you ask us to delete information we no longer need for a legal or contractual purpose, we will consider the request. We may refuse where the law requires us to keep the record, or where we still need it for the purposes described in this policy.
8. Your rights
Subject to limits in the applicable law, you may:
- Ask whether we hold personal information about you.
- Request access to that information.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Withdraw consent for optional uses, such as marketing.
- Make a complaint about how we handled your information.
We will respond within the time the applicable law requires. We may need to confirm your identity before we release information. In limited cases the law allows us to refuse access; if we do, we will explain why, unless we are not allowed to.
9. Website cookies
Our website may use cookies or similar tools for basic function, security, and to understand how the site is used. You can control cookies in your browser. If you turn them off, some features may not work.
10. Children
Our products and website are directed at adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will be posted on our website or available on request. The effective date at the top will change when we make a material update.
